Juvenile injured in Friday night assault

A Springfield juvenile was taken to a hospital late Saturday night with injuries suffered from an alleged assault.

Police were called to the 500 block of Mead Lane around 11:50 p.m. on the report of a fight and shots fired, according to a police report. Witnesses at the house said several juveniles had been drinking and there had been a large fight.

Police also received a call from the 1600 block of Woodward Avenue, where a woman said her son arrived home at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, collapsed and started throwing up blood. He was also bleeding from the head.

Witnesses said the victim was punched in the head by an unknown male, and another male used a pipe or another small object to the victim in the beck or head.

Witnesses said everyone in the house then ran outside, and someone was firing a gun.
