FIRST REPORT: Woman killed in Springfield crash
The crash was the first fatal traffic accident in Springfield this year and the second in Clark County, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol statistics.
The car was traveling north on East Street between Mound and East High streets when the driver traveled left of center, ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole, the crash report says.
The driver was taken by squad to Springfield Regional Medical Center.
The crash damaged the center front of the car, the report says. The car’s airbags didn’t deploy, the report says.
It’s unknown how the driver went left of center, Springfield Police Division Sgt. Jerome Montico said.
“We’re still investigating what caused the accident … It was a pretty straight-on collision with the pole,” he said.
The car allegedly was going about 55 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone, the report says. The roads were also wet and snowy, it says.

Police are investigating if drugs played a factor in the crash, the report says.
“That’s still pending the toxicology report,” Montico said.
