Wright State in no hurry to fill scholarship vacancies

The biggest weakness for the Wright State basketball team during a successful, championship season was depth, and it’s something that could be in play again in 2018-19.

The Raiders have two open scholarships after releasing incoming freshman Jeremiah Davenport from his letter of intent and allowing redshirt sophomore Everett Winchester a transfer to Florida Atlantic.

WSU coach Scott Nagy said the waiting game could go all the way until the school year begins.

“There’s still guys transferring now, there will be guys transferring in July, there will be guys transferring in August,” he said. “I mean, you wouldn’t think that would be the case but it happens.”

Nagy said he is looking for a player who fits the program, not just someone to fill a vacancy.

Even if the Raiders do not fill the openings, they still could have a deeper bench than last year with Bill Wampler and James Mann coming off their redshirt seasons and the three incoming freshmen, Grant Basile, Malachi Smith and Skyelar Potter, each having a chance to contribute right away.
