Wittenberg quarterback earns NCAC weekly honor after record-breaking night

Jake Kennedy threw seven touchdown passes against Denison

Wittenberg Tigers quarterback Jake Kennedy won the North Coast Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week award Monday after a record-setting performance at Denison.

The Bellefontaine grad Kennedy threw seven touchdown passes Saturday in a 68-66 four-overtime victory in Granville. He tied the single-game NCAC record set by Earlham's Justin Rummell twice in the early 2000s.

Kennedy completed 31 of 43 passes for 421 yards, also setting a school record for passing yards.

The Tigers, who dropped from No. 14 to No. 16 in the D3Football.com poll and from No. 11 to No. 12 in the American Football Coaches Association poll, improved to 4-0 with their 18th straight regular-season victory.

Kennedy continues to climb the record books in his final season. Here’s where he stands with six regular-season games to go:

Passing yards: Kennedy has 6,300 career yards. In recent weeks, he has passed Zack Jenkins (5,762) and Ben Zoeller (5,770). He ranks third behind Aaron Huffman (6,446) and Reed Florence (6,419).

Passing touchdowns: Kennedy has 16 touchdown passes this season and 59 in his career. He ranks third behind Florence (74) and Charlie Green (61).

Pass attempts: Kennedy has thrown 817 passes in his career. That's a new school record. He passed Huffman (788) on Saturday.
