Wampler-led Wright State rolls in season opener


Junior transfer Bill Wampler scored 26 points and made five 3-pointers in his Wright State debut to lead the Raiders to a 96-73 victory over Western Carolina on Wednesday night at the Nutter Center in the season opener for both teams.

Wampler scored 18 points in the first half as the Raiders rolled to a 52-26 lead. While Wampler and Loudon Love were leading the offense, the defensive end was strong, too. The Raiders led 18-2 before Western hit a 3-pointer for its first field goal with 13:17 left in the half.

Love added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds and point guard Cole Gentry had nine assists. Two freshman guards had memorable debuts. Skyelar Potter had 16 points and five rebounds and Malachi Smith scored 10 points.
