Series history: VCU leads the series 7-4. The teams split two games last season. VCU won 73-68 in Richmond. Dayton won 79-72 on Senior Night at UD Arena, clinching the outright championship in the Atlantic 10.

Coaches: Anthony Grant is 8-8 as Dayton head coach. His career record in 10 seasons is 201-118. VCU’s Mike Rhoades is 11-6 in his first season. He had a 47-52 record at Rice the last three seasons. Rhoades first coached at VCU under Shaka Smart in 2009-10, the season after Anthony Grant left VCU for Alabama. He spent six seasons on Smart’s staff.

Last games: On Tuesday, Dayton beat Richmond 87-81 on the road, and VCU beat visiting Duquesne 78-67.

He has scored 1,091 points in his career. He’s the only remaining player who started for VCU at UD Arena last season. He scored 18 points in both games against Dayton last season. … VCU ranks 94th in the RPI. Dayton is 87th. VCU is 97th in the Pomeroy ratings. Dayton ranks 138th.
