Dayton’s 16-game home winning streak ends

First double-digit loss at UD Arena since January 2014

The Dayton Flyers suffered their first double-digit loss at UD Arena in almost four years, falling 73-60 to Auburn on Wednesday.

It’s Dayton’s first loss at home in more than a year. The Flyers lost 61-57 to Saint Mary’s on Nov. 19, 2016, and then won 16 straight. They were 2-0 at home this season. It’s also Anthony Grant’s first home loss as Dayton head coach.

Dayton hadn’t loss by double digits at home since January 2014 to VCU.

Auburn dominated the second half, though Dayton got as close as eight points in the final minute. The Tigers made 10 of 25 3-pointers and 19 of 24 free throws.

Dayton committed a season-high 19 turnovers and shot 30 percent from 3-point range (6 of 20).

Mustapha Heron led Auburn with 21 points. Darrell Davis scored 18 for the Flyers.

Dayton falls to 3-3 and plays another Southeastern Conference team in its next game at 8 p.m. Sunday at Mississippi State.

FIRST-HALF RECAP

The played one of their worst halves of the young season and faced their biggest halftime deficit of the season.

The Flyers trailed 35-24 thanks in part to 10 turnovers, 2-of-14 shooting from 3-point range and foul trouble. Kostas Antetokounmpo picked up two fouls in the first 28 seconds. Josh Cunningham and Matej Svoboda also had two fouls.

Auburn's star: Freshman Chuma Okeke made 4 of 5 shots from the field and led the Tigers with 13 points.

Dayton's star: Darrell Davis scored 10 points in the first eight minutes but none the rest of the way. He had 10 points on 2-of-8 shooting. He made 5 of 6 free throws.

Big runs: Auburn opened the game on an 11-2 run. Dayton scored the next 13 points. Auburn then went on another 11-2 run later in the half to take control.

Key stats: Auburn made 9 of 10 free throws and led the rebounding battle 35-24 at halftime.
