Top basketball cities ranked: Where does Dayton fall on list?

Website tries to measure cities by success of teams, ticket prices, etc.

Dayton ranked 89th out of 291 on a list of the best basketball cities in the United States and 72nd among college basketball towns, according to a study by the website WalletHub.com.

The website assigned points to cities for, among other things, performance level, national championships, regular-season championships, minimum season-ticket prices and stadium capacity.

Los Angeles ranked No. 1 among basketball cities. Chapel Hill, N.C., ranked No. 1 among college basketball cities.

Cincinnati was No. 53 overall and 32nd among college basketball cities. Cleveland ranked ninth and 235th. Columbus ranked 79th and 61st. Akron was 81st and 62nd. Oxford ranked 209th and 203rd.

Two years ago, Dayton made a NCAA.com list of the top nine college basketball towns in the country. The Dayton Flyers annually rank in the top 25 in the country in attendance and played in the NCAA tournament four straight years from 2014-17. Wright State made the NCAA tournament in 2018.
