Shawnee junior records best qualifying time in 400-meter dash at state meet

Shawnee's Robie Glass competes in the 100-meter dash at the Division II state track and field championships on Saturday, May 31, 2019, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Shawnee High School junior Robie Glass turned in the top time in the 400-meter dash, his best event, in qualifying Friday on the first day of the Division II state track and field championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Glass advanced to Saturday's finals with a time of 48.53 seconds. He won the regional title in 48.97 seconds.

Glass did not advance to the finals in his other two running events. He finished 15th in the 100 in 11.2 seconds. He was 14th in the 200 in 23.24. He will compete in the high jump finals Saturday.

The state meet was delayed by more than three hours during the Division II meet by lightning and rain.

• The Kenton Ridge 4x400 relay team of Andrew Good, Carson Jones, Justin Peterman and Owen Walters advanced to the finals with the fourth-best qualifying time (3:22.20).

• Springfield senior Austin Tyree qualified for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles with the ninth-best time (14.66).

• Springfield failed to qualify in the 4x200 relay (12th, 1:29.01) and 4x400 relay (15th, 3:23.59).
