Ryan Day: Buckeyes have an ‘opportunity to make a statement’ in opener

Ohio State plays Oregon State at noon

The Ohio State Buckeyes walked to the Skull Session at St. John Arena and then to Ohio Stadium with acting head coach Ryan Day leading the path every step of the way Saturday two hours before the season opener at noon against Oregon State.

Day, filling in for the suspended Urban Meyer for the first three games, spoke to a packed house at the Skull Session.

“We talked to the team about how today we can make a statement,” Day said. “We have an opportunity today to make a statement as a team and as Buckeye Nation. We’ll see you in a couple hours.”

“We just want to let you know we’ve worked extremely hard for this moment,” Prince said.

Also talking was new Alex Grinch, a co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

“There is something very magical about college football Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, and I know that growing up in the area,” Grinch said. “I was born and raised a Buckeye. It’s been over 25 years since I’ve been at a Skull Session, and the best damn band in the land sure looks good.”
