HS Roundup 2/8: Stivers ends 66 year City League title drought

Allen Lattimore exploded for 29 points and Stivers rocked host Dunbar 74-56 in boys basketball Friday to secure at least a share of the City League title for the first time since 1953.

Trevon Ellis added 10 points with 13 rebounds for Stivers, which improved to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in conference play.

Stivers will have a chance to clinch the City League title outright on Saturday night at Thurgood Marshall.

Thurgood beat Belmont 78-64 on Friday and at 7-2 in conference the Cougars will have a chance to earn a split of the league title.

The 1952-53 Stivers squad featured Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame players Jim Morgan and Gene Millard. The Tigers were ranked No. 1 in the state but lost in the district finals.

Millard went on to star for Ohio State, including being captain of the 1956-57 team. He is credited with scoring the first basket at St. John Arena. Morgan played basketball at the University of Louisville and later coached at Stebbins High School.

Boys Basketball

Alter 38, Carroll 28: Brady Uhl scored 13 points and Alter took control with a 17-7 run in the second quarter. Matt Cogan finished with 13 points for Carroll.

Badin 48, McNicholas 46: Facing a 15-point deficit entering the final quarter on the road, Badin rallied in a wild one.

Butler 59, Troy 55: Quentin Glover led the way with 21 points and Bryant Johnson added 12 to help Butler improve to 18-2. Tre’Vone Archie paced Troy with 17 points and Shaedon Olden added 16.

Carlisle 52, Dixie 32: Dane Flatter totaled 16 points and Nolan Burney added 11 for Carlisle.

Chaminade Julienne 65, Fenwick 62, OT: Milton Gage put up 21 points to help CJ end a two-game losing skid and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Catholic Central 66, Greenon 39: Mykah Eichie and Sabien Doolittle combined for 45 points to pace Catholic Central.

Dayton Christian 50, Yellow Springs 20: Anton Webb spurred DC with 22 points and Devin Dreier added 12 for Dayton Christian, which scored the first 18 points of the game.

Emmanuel Christian 65, Jefferson 29: Fred Shropshire scored 18 points, Jason Channels tacked on 12 and Adonis Davis hauled in 10 rebounds for EC.

Fairbanks 73, Mechanicsburg 41: Joey Mascadri had 17 points for ‘Burg but Fairbanks opened the game on a 13-2 run and never looked back.

Franklin 72, Brookville 68, OT: Jacob Gudorf scored 24 points to help Brookville rally from ten points down to force overtime but Franklin prevailed. The win moved Franklin to 7-4 in conference play with a game to play. Brookville, also with one more conference game left, fell to 8-3.

Greeneview 41, Madison Plains 39: Gabe Caudill chipped in 18 points to help give Greeneview the edge. Matt Johnson tallied 10 points for Madison Plains.

Miamisburg 48, Lebanon 30: Brett Hensley recorded 14 points and Corey Hartman chipped in 11 for ‘Burg.

Minster 63, New Knoxville 30: Jarod Schulze paced Minster with 20 points and Jacob Salazar added 12. Carson Bierlein led New Knoxville with 10 points.

National Trail 51, Mississinawa Valley 32: Cameron Harrison had 12 points and Zach Woodall and Travis Hunt chipped in 11 apiece to help National Trail win its 12th straight contest.

Northeastern 47, Triad 36: Noah Fenton led the way with 17 points and Josh Calhoun added 11. Layne Thompson chipped in 12 points for Triad.

Northwest 64, Talawanda 47: Craig James scored 20 points and Jonathan Richter hauled in 10 rebounds in the loss for Talawanda.

Oakwood 59, Bellbrook 48: Darren Rubin scored 23 points and Oakwood shot 13-of-13 from the foul line in the final quarter to pull out the win and stay alive in the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern division race.

Princeton 68, Middletown 50: Aaron Jones totaled 12 points with 10 rebounds but Middletown couldn’t keep pace with Princeton.

Sidney 72, Piqua 41: Andre Gordon scored half of his 28 points in the third quarter, spurring a 13-point swing to help Sidney pull away. Qurri Tucker finished with 15 points for Piqua.

Springboro 73, Northmont 55: Michael Berner put up 16 of his 22 points in the second half to help ‘Boro pull away. Garett Powell added 18 points and Connor Grevey 12. Danny Lewis countered with 22 points for Northmont.

St. Bernard 48, Cin. Christian 42: Logan Woods scored 15 points but Cin. Christian couldn’t rally from an early deficit.

St. Henry 62, Fort Recovery 39: Zach Niekamp scored 15 points and Jay Knapke added 10 points with 10 rebounds to pace St. Henry. Payton Jutte led Fort Recovery with 11 points.

Tippecanoe 58, Greenville 35: Nolan Mader scored 26 points and Ben Knostman tacked on 12 to lead Tippecanoe. Tyler Beyke paced Greenville with 20 points.

Trotwood 113, Xenia 89: Amari Davis poured in 33 points, Carl Blanton added 26 and Malachi Mathews and Sammy Anderson 15 apiece for Trotwood, which eclipsed the century mark in points for a fourth straight game. Samari Curtis scored 28 points to lead Xenia.

Twin Valley South 80, Bradford 22: Willie Bowman chipped in 22 points to help TVS improve to 16-2 and 9-1 in conference play.

Waynesville 54, Milton-Union 53: Waynesville held off a second half rally from Milton-Union to move to 9-2 in conference play.

West Jefferson 64, West Liberty-Salem 47: Nick Burden tallied 14 points and Holden Nease 13 in a losing effort for WLS.

Girls Basketball

Mechanicsburg 69, Fairbanks 30: Grace Forrest scored 16 points, Emma Jones 14 and Morgan Hamby 11 to lead ‘Burg.
