H.S. Results for 2/4/17: Mason tops Fairfield for GMC wrestling crown

Five Mason wrestlers won their weight classes Saturday as the Comets claimed the team title in the Greater Miami Conference wrestling championships at Lakota East.

Mason piled up 242 points to 162 for runnerup Fairfield. Oak Hills was third and Lakota East fourth in the 10-team field.

Fairfield had three weight class winners: Zach Shupp (113), Sam Meddings (145) and Andrew Sams (170). Lakota East’s Kemal Sarvalov (220) and Jon Spaulding (285) swept the heavy weights.

Runners-up included Fairfield’s Moustapha Bal and Jabari Thomas, Lakota East’s Cristian Chavez and Drew Katona, Lakota West’s Jensen Quinn and Caleb Harris and Middletown’s Jason Truxall and Jacob Kirby-Sheffey.

Boys Basketball

Ansonia 74, Houston 64: Ansonia (10-9) trailed by as many as 19 in the second half, but outscored Houston, 34-12, the fourth quarter to pull out the win. Devyn Sink scored a game-high 23 for Ansonia, Trevor Alexander added 17 and Brayden Swabb dropped in five 3-point goals to finish with 15.

Botkins 54, New Bremen 50: Luke Bergman scored 10 of his 20 points during a big fourth quarter for Botkins, which outscored New Bremen, 27-12, in the final frame. Spencer Heuker added 17 for Botkins. Nolan Bornhorst had 15 for New Bremen.

Carlisle 53, Badin 44: Carlisle (13-5) got 21 points from Justin Flohr, 15 from Adam Goodpaster.

Dayton Christian 76, Clark Montessori 61: Matt Welker scored 32 for Dayton Christian (12-6), which shot 65 percent from the field.

Edgewood 61, Talawanda 40: Edgewood improved to 13-5, 6-4 behind Eddie Driskell (23 points) and Ethan McCarty (17).

Fairborn 58, Centerville 54: Fairborn (11-8) won for the eighth time in its last 10 games, sinking 8 of 13 3-point attempts. Branden Lilley led the Skyhawks with 16 points. Brandon Easterling added 13 and Shaunn Monroe 10.

Fort Loramie 65, Marion Local 49: Fort Loramie hit 8 of 9 3-point attempts during the first half and outscored Marion Local, 26-7, in the second quarter. Tyler Siegel scored 20 for Fort Loramie (15-3, 8-2).

Fort Recovery 70, Mississinawa Valley 49: Payton Jutte (16 points, 7 rebounds), Micaiah Cox (16 points) and Ryan Braun (12 points) had big games for Fort Recovery. Ethan Bowman (16 points, 9 rebounds) topped Mississinawa Valley.

Jackson Center 58, Minster 55: The teams combined for 33 points in the first half, 80 in the second half. Brady Wildermuth scored 26 for Jackson Center, Mike Ketner and Aaron Ernst 13 apiece for Minster.

Miamisburg 68, Troy 58: Kort Justice scored 12 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter for Miamisburg, which had knocked off Springboro one night earlier. Duncan Hall added 17, Lathan Hartman 12.

New Knoxville 50, Lima Temple Christian 48, OT: Nick Topp and Nathan Timmerman scored 16 apiece for New Knoxville. Seth Hehlbein scored 15, Brady Bowman 14 for Lima Temple Christian.

Oakwood 63, Greenon 42: Four players scored in double figures for Oakwood (12-7): Brock Gorman (14), Alex Neff (11), Andy Neff (10) and Brendan Talarczyk (10).

Piqua 60, Milton-Union 47: Nate Monnin scored 16, Ben Schmiesing 14 and Cory Cottrell 13 for Piqua, which sank eight 3-point goals. Blake Smith scored 12 for Milton-Union.

Sidney 62, St. Mary’s Memorial 47: Devan Rogers, Andre Gordon and Josiah Hudgins combined for 22 points in the fourth quarter as Sidney outscored St. Mary’s, 24-10, to claim the non-conference victory. Rogers finished with 17 points, Gordon 14 and Ratez Roberts 14. Jacob Grannon led St. Mary’s with 18.

St. Henry 77, Celina 58: St. Henry outscored Celina, 51-27, in the second half behind Taylor Schlarman’s 24 points.

West Liberty-Salem 61, Northwestern 52: WLS (10-7) got 19 points each from Tyler Louden and Max Eggleston, 14 from Trevor Burden. Kurt Waters topped Northwestern with 27.

Xenia 83, Tecumseh 39: Four players scored in double figures as Xenia (12-6) won big: Kobe Hughlett (16), Teandre’ Adams (14), Ricky Williams (13) and Samari Curtis (13).

Badin 43, Roger Bacon 24: Badin (13-6) prepped for its big Monday night home game against Hamilton by winning behind Shelby Nusbaum’s 12 points.

Beavercreek 49, Stebbins 47: Keaira Youngblood sank seven 3-point goals on her way to a game-high 23 points as Beavercreek (13-6) came back in the fourth quarter to edge Stebbins (13-7). Haley Hutchins added 11 for Beavercreek. Bree Bransford scored 17, Mackenzie Lingg 14 for Stebbins.

Bellbrook 77, Brookville 16: Bellbrook (17-3, 11-0) clinched its Southwestern Buckeye League division title as 13 players scored, led by Cassidy Hofacker’s 15.

Botkins 48, Anna 46: Casey Woodall hit the game-winning shot with 4.9 seconds remaining. Taylor Kauffmann led Anna with 10 points.

Fairborn 52, West Carrollton 38: Fairborn evened its record at 10-10 behind 20 points from Evelyn Oklavec and 15 from Jana Brown-Griffith.

Fairfield 54, Sycamore 43: Brooke Spaulding led Fairfield in points (16) and assists (5).

Fort Recovery 72, Mississinawa Valley 21: Carley Stone had 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists for Fort Recovery (15-1). Grace Thien scored a game-high 15 and Whitney Will added 10. Kelsie Hunt had 10 points and 8 rebounds for Mississinawa Valley.

Franklin 60, Eaton 46: Franklin (13-8) won for the 11th time in its last 13 games, thanks to Layne Ferrell’s 19 points and Skylar Weir’s 11. Bailee Worley and Bailey Shepherd scored 11 each for Eaton.

Jackson Center 37, Fort Loramie 29: Olivia Clark scored all of her team-high 8 points in the first half for Jackson Center, and Kamryn Eichert scored 6 in the fourth quarter. Taylor Raterman topped Fort Loramie with 10 points.

Lebanon 39, Miamisburg 34, OT: Ashley West led Lebanon (14-6) with 11 points, Rachel Perry had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Alexis Straw 10 points. Emily Kepple led Miamisburg with 8 points.

Madison 58, Preble Shawnee 54: Madison (12-8, 8-4) got 21 points from Kenzi Saunders.

Mechanicsburg 66, Catholic Central 27: Freshman point guard Kasey Schipfer had a big game with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 9 steals and freshman post Morgan Hamby pulled down 14 rebounds. Mikayla Dodane led Mechanicsburg with 21 points.

Miami East 63, Bradford 37: Miami East outscored Bradford, 26-5, in the third quarter. Haley Howard had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for Miami East and Bailey Miller added 14 points. Mandi Bates scored 16, Olivia Hart 10 for Bradford.

Miami Valley 73, Dayton Christian 33: Miami Valley (15-3) clinched its fourth consecutive Metro Buckeye Conference title as Tia Karras scored 22 points and Liz Bush 21. Mollie Lyon added 8 points and 13 rebounds. Camryn Collingsworth led Dayton Christian with 15 and Morgan Orme added 14.

Milton-Union 48, Northridge 28: Kristen Dickison led Milton-Union (15-5) with 17. Jamese Johnson led Northridge with 14.

Newton 44, Northwestern 30: Tatum McBride led Newton (12-6) with 16 points.

Princeton 46, Lakota East 31: Princeton (14-6, 10-4) ran off a 26-6 lead in the first half. Trinity Morris led Princeton with 15 points. Jordan Stanley topped Lakota East with 12.

Springboro 78, Northmont 50: Springboro (16-4, 8-1) clinched its GWOC division crown behind 23 points from Jordan Diehl and 12 from Kennedy Lewis. Erin Mangen led Northmont with 17.

St. Mary’s Memorial 55, St. Henry 49: Alexis Ontrop scored 12 for St. Henry.

Stivers 56, Bethel 50: Emily Fletcher had 22 points, 21 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots for Stivers (9-9).

Talawanda 69, Northwest 47: Emma Wright (27 points, 17 rebounds) had her fifth double-double of the season for Talawanda. Teammate Katlynn Woodruff also had a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds).

Tecumseh 94, Urbana 33: Tecumseh (19-2, 12-0) wrapped up first place in its Central Buckeye Conference division as Corinne Thomas scored 34, Presley Griffitts 28. Hunter Rogan topped Urbana with 18.

Tri-County North 57, National Trail 30: Aubrey Stupp scored 19 for Tri-County North.

Waynesville 62, Carlisle 29: Waynesville (19-1, 10-1) can claim first place outright in its division Thursday with a win a Dixie. Rachel Murray led the Spartans with 18 points and 6 assists, while Marcella Sizer added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Middletown Christian 2762, Monroe 2429: Middletown Christian set a school record for pins in a match while winning its sixth in a row.

Girls Gymnastics
