Report: Cincinnati Reds interview former Yankees manager Joe Girardi

The Cincinnati Reds interviewed former New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi, according to reports by Jon Heyman and Mark Sheldon on Wednesday, for their vacant managing job.

Girardi, 53, managed the Yankees from 2008-17, compiling a record of 910-710. He won the World Series in his second season. He also managed the Florida Marlins in 2006, finishing 78-74. Since the Reds fired Bryan Price in April, there has been speculation Girardi would be a candidate.

In a 15-year playing career, Girardi played for the Chicago Cubs, Yankees, Colorado Rockies and St. Louis Cardinals. He’s originally from Peoria, Ill., and attended Northwestern University.

According to multiple reports, the Reds interviewed Jim Riggleman for the job on Monday. He served as interim manager after the Reds fired Price. The Reds finished 67-95, one game worse than the last two seasons.

Heyman reported the Reds also interviewed former Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell and have former Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus and David Bell, the director of player development for the San Francisco Giants and the son of former Red Buddy Bell, on their list of candidates as well.
