Report: Dayton to play Big East team in first round of Battle 4 Atlantis

The Dayton Flyers will play Butler in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis, according to a report Monday by Jon Rothstein.

The tournament, which will be held Nov. 21-23 on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, also features first-round matchups between Virginia and Middle Tennessee State, Florida and Oklahoma and Wisconsin and Stanford.

Butler leads the all-time series against Dayton 13-10 and has won the last six meetings. The teams last played in 2013, the one season Butler played in the Atlantic 10 after it left the Horizon League and before it moved to the Big East. Butler won 79-73 at UD Arena and 73-67 in the A-10 tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Dayton’s last victory came in 1991, 116-98 at UD Arena.

Butler finished 21-14 last season, the first for head coach LaVall Jordan. The Bulldogs appeared in the NCAA tournament for the fourth season in a row and 10th time in 12 seasons. They beat Arkansas 79-62 in the first round before losing 76-73 to Purdue.

Butler lost senior Kelan Martin, a 2,047-point career scorer. Its top returning scorer is junior guard Kamar Baldwin (15.7 points per game). The team has two seniors: guard Paul Jorgenson (10.2) and center Nate Fowler (5.9).
