Zack Cozart ranks third among shortstops in National League

Zack Cozart seeks his first All-Star selection.

No shortstop in the National League has played better than Zack Cozart, but he ranks third at that position in voting for the National League All-Star team. He was the only Cincinnati Reds player to make the first list of leaders released Tuesday.

With 264,516 votes, Cozart trails the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Corey Seager (399,347) and the Chicago Cubs’ Addison Russell (379,640).

Cozart leads NL shortstops with a .344 batting average. That’s .59 points better than Seager. Cozart also has the best on-base percentage (.422) and most triples (4). He’s tied with Seager with 13 doubles. Cozart ranks second in RBIs (25) and is tied for fourth in home runs (5).

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper leads all players with 900,079 votes.

Voting continues until June 29. The 88th All-Star Game takes place July 11 in Miami, Fla.
