Ohio State names interim wide receivers coach

Hartline takes position of Zach Smith

The Ohio State Buckeyes named Brian Hartline their interim wide receivers coach on Thursday.

Hartline, who played for the Buckeyes from 2006-08 and served in a quality control position with the wide receivers last season, takes over for Zach Smith, who was fired Tuesday after six seasons on Urban Meyer’s staff.

“As I said in Chicago, I am very confident with the individuals on this coaching staff and both Brian and Corey are quality young men,” Meyer said in a press release. “I anticipate both of them doing well with their new responsibilities.”

In another staff change, Meyer moved third-year program assistant Corey Dennis to a senior quality control position working with the wide receivers and quarterbacks. Last season, Dennis worked with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Ryan Day.

Hartline played seven seasons in the NFL, six with the Miami Dolphins. His career ended after the 2015 season with the Cleveland Browns. He caught 344 passes and 14 touchdowns in his career.

At Ohio State, he had 90 catches, 1,429 yards and 12 touchdowns.
