Who: No. 9 Ohio State (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten) at Maryland (5-5, 3-4)
When: 12 p.m., Saturday
Where: Maryland Stadium, College Park, Md.
Series history: Ohio State leads 4-0.
Last game: Ohio State won 62-14 last season in Columbus. The Buckeyes have scored 62 points in back to back games against the Terrapins, and Ohio State has won all four games in the series by at least 21 points.
Coaches: Ohio State’s Urban Meyer is 79-9 in six seasons as the coach of the Buckeyes and 183-32 overall in 17 seasons. Interim coach Matt Canada is 5-5 this season and overall as a head coach. He replaced Ohio native and Meyer protege D.J. Durkin, who was placed on administrative leave and eventually fired following the death of a player in the offseason and over concerns with how he ran his program.
Ohio State notes: Sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins is No. 2 in the nation with 33 touchdown passes and fifth nationally with 328 passing yards per game… Ohio State is No. 8 nationally in total offense (527.2 yards per game) and No. 56 in total defense (385.0)… The Buckeyes are 11th (40.6 points per game) and 32nd (22.0) in scoring… They Buckeyes are tied with Cincinnati for 107th nationally in penalties per game (7.6) and 103rd in penalty yards assessed per game (68.3), but Maryland is worse in both categories, ranking tied for 123rd in penalties (8.4) and 126th in yards (80.3)… Five Ohio State players went to high school in or hail from Maryland: Haskins (the Bullis School in Potomac, Md.), defensive end Chase Young (Upper Marlboro/DeMatha Catholic), right tackle Isaiah Prince (Greenbelt/Eleanor Roosevelt), linebacker Keandre Jones (Olney/Our Lady of Good Counsel) and defensive tackle Taron Vincent (Baltimore/IMG Academy).
Maryland notes: The Terrapins started the season 2-0 and then 4-2 but have lost three of their last four games… Maryland leads the country in red zone scoring percentage (100) while Ohio State is 122nd (73.9 percent)… Maryland running back Ty Johnson can claim a rare double: Kickoff return touchdown at Ohio Stadium and Michigan Stadium. He left last week’s game against Indiana with a leg injury, though, and might not be able to play against the Buckeyes… One Maryland player is from Ohio — long snapper James Rosenberry (Olentangy).
Quoted: Canada on Haskins, who originally verbally committed to Maryland: “I can’t speak to what he’d be like at Maryland, but my impression is he’s a great football player and a great leader. He’s made some tremendous plays. We have great respect for him and everything he’s done at Ohio State.”
Next game: Ohio State plays host to Michigan at noon next Saturday. Maryland will play at Penn State at 3:30 next Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Ohio State 30, Maryland 13
