Urban Meyer said Sunday his Ohio State football team will have a new starter at right guard the next time it takes the field.
Demetrius Knox, a senior who lived in Springfield as a youngster before graduating from high school in Texas, is out for the Big Ten championship game because of a foot injury.
The announcement comes after he left Ohio State’s 62-39 win over Michigan on a cart.
Redshirt freshman Wyatt Davis will replace him in the lineup against Northwestern on Saturday.
Meyer has praised Davis’ development for much of the year, and he made it into a special goal line package.
Meyer also said he is happy with reserves Josh Myers, a redshirt freshman from Miamisburg, and Josh Alabi, a junior who has replaced an injured Thayer Munford at left tackle multiple times during the season.
Like most teams, Ohio State has had a few starters in and out of the lineup throughout the season.
The biggest loss was Nick Bosa, an All-American defensive end who suffered a season-ending core muscle injury in a week three win over TCU.
