Ohio State Buckeyes: Wyatt Davis open to returning

Will the two Ohio State captains who entered the NFL Draft early still be seen in scarlet and gray this fall?

That was one of the questions posted soon after the Big Ten announced plans to play football this fall.

All-American offensive lineman Wyatt Davis wants back in while star defensive back Shaun Wade is undecided.

“I want Buckeye Nation to know that I want to play this season for Ohio State and I am working now to make that a reality,” Davis posted on Twitter late Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier in the afternoon, Wade told ESPN he is still thinking about it but that he has not signed with an agent yet.

If either of them had signed with an agent, that would not necessarily preclude them from returning, though they may have to obtain an eligibility waiver from the NCAA.

Coach Ryan Day said his earlier communications with both had indicated they intended to play until the Big Ten delayed a decision about when a football season might occur.

“In communication with both of those guys and their families, they wanted to play, but at the time (they declared), the information that they had was we weren’t playing the season,” Day said. "Now it’s changed, and I think this is a very, very unique time in our country’s history and certainly in college football so if they want to play, I believe 1,000 percent they should be allowed the opportunity to play.

“Now this all just came out fast. It’s happening and moving quickly, so we’ll let them kind of digest and see in the conversations you’re having with their families, what they want to do and then we’ll go from there. But, but they both shared with me that they want to play football. They want to be part of this team. They want to play with their teammates, and now the opportunity’s here, and so you know in terms of details of all that, we’ll figure that out over the next couple days.”
