Ohio State Buckeyes to wear alternate jersey against Michigan State

That will be a night game broadcast by NBC set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Ohio Stadium.

Ohio State’s official description of the uniform explains it will feature a “steel-gray” jersey and pants that will be a slightly darker shade than the traditional gray uniform pants.

The togs also will feature Ohio State’s home stripe pattern on the sleeves and pants with scarlet numbers and white edging on the front, back and shoulders along with scarlet logos for the Big Ten, Nike and Ohio State.

The Buckeyes will also have gray socks and their traditional silver helmets.

While Ohio State has worn various alternate or throwback uniforms at least once a year almost every year for more than a decade, a gray version of the Buckeyes’ normal jersey will be new.

They came close to doing something like that in 2017, though the gray uniforms Nike provided them that season were a nearly different design top to bottom, including a different helmet.

The Buckeyes first wore an alternate uniform at Michigan in 2009, a mostly gray and white look that was said to be a throwback to what the 1954 national champions wore.

Ohio State has also since worn tributes to the teams of 1919, ‘42, ‘61 and ‘68 as well as multiple purely different uniforms with no historical significance and taken the field in all black, all white or all scarlet.

The Buckeyes wore their black uniforms last season at home against Wisconsin and unveiled scarlet pants for their home win over Penn State in 2021.

They are 26-7 in alternate uniforms, including 15-2 at home, where they have won seven in a row.

°Also this week Ohio State announced tickets to watch the Buckeyes’ first two practices of the preseason sold out.

Five hundred tickets were available for each day, but they were all purchased in less than 24 hours.

Fans who are interested in attending the first Ryan Day Season Kickoff Luncheon can still do so for $2,500 per table. That is scheduled for Aug. 4.
