Apparently the Cleveland Browns have seen enough from quarterback Robert Griffin III during two weeks of voluntary workouts to decide they don’t need to take a quarterback in the first round of next week’s draft.
The Browns traded the No. 2 overall selection to Philadelphia for five draft picks, the first of which will come at No. 8.
Coming off a 3-13 season was the franchise’s eighth consecutive losing campaign, the Browns have plenty of other areas that need addressed.
According to multiple reports, the St. Louis Rams and Philadelphia Eagles are committed to drafting quarterbacks with the first two picks.
So working under the assumption that it’s unlikely that Florida State cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner or Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa will fall to No. 8, here is a list of five players Cleveland could take with the No. 8 pick.
Myles Jack, LB, UCLA
Most mocks have him going before 8, but questions about his surgically repaired knee could cause teams to shy away and result in him still being there for the Browns.
Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State
A team that hasn’t finished in the top half of the league in rushing since 2009 and has been 20th or worse in five of the last six years certainly would seem to be in the market for the best running back in the draft.
Vernon Hargreaves, CB, Florida
Justin Gilbert has been a bust and now the team is acknowledging that Joe Haden might not be ready for the start of 2016 because of ankle surgery.
Laremy Tunsil, OT, Mississippi
New coach Hue Jackson would love to put another elite tackle on the opposite side of the line from Pro Bowler Joe Thomas to protect RG3.
Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
