Matos is a native of the Dominican Republic. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Matos made his announcement on Twitter. He thanked God and his family for giving him the opportunity to play this “beautiful sport.” He also thanked his coaches in the Dominican Republic and the United States.

Matos averages 17.8 points per game, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists for Monroe. He shoots 43.7 percent from the field, 36.2 percent from 3-point range and 71.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Matos is the second recruit in the 2018 class for Dayton. Dwayne Cohill signed with the Flyers in November. With the commitment of Matos, Dayton has no scholarships open, but that could change if players transfer from the program after the season.

Matos played his first season of junior college basketball at Eastern Florida State. He averaged 5.3 points per game in the 2016-17 season.
