Prep Roundup: KR names softball field after Ed Foulk

Urbana baseball wins first conference title since 1999.

SPRINGFIELD — The Kenton Ridge High School softball team christened the newly-named Ed Foulk Field with a 7-0 victory over Tecumseh on Tuesday, May 4.

Paige McCrary homered for the Cougars (18-7, 11-3 Central Buckeye Conference).

Foulk retired after last season, his 23rd as head coach. He led the Cougars to five state final fours and three state runner-up finishes.

Before Tuesday’s game, Kenton Ridge held a short ceremony for Foulk, unveiling a sign in right field that reads, “Ed Foulk Field.” About 15 former players attended the game, and Foulk was given a small replica of the sign. He also coached first base during the game.

• CeCe Debartolo tossed the first perfect game in school history with eight strikeouts, and Brittny Biles was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs as Springfield (10-14) beat Catholic Central, 20-0, in five innings.

Baseball

Urbana clinched a share of its first conference title since 1999 and the first in the tenure of coach Kevin Bowdle, beating Indian Lake, 10-3, at Bob Brenning Field. The Hillclimbers (17-4, 11-3 CBC) can win the CBC Mad River Division outright with one more win. It plays Tippecanoe on Thursday at Fifth Third Field and hosts Bellefontaine on Monday.

“It’s special,” Bowdle said. “It was nice to watch the kids accomplish their goal. Right from the get-go this season, they were focused on what they wanted to do. They battled all season long. ... There’s still a little drive in them. I think they want (the title) by themselves.”

Cole Winner broke the game open with a three-run home run in the third. That made it 7-0 after three.

• Tecumseh upset Kenton Ridge, 5-3, thanks in part to three unearned runs in the fifth. Oliver Bicknell drove in two runs for the Arrows (7-14, 5-9 CBC). Wes Henderson and J.T. Brubaker each had two hits. Zach Schwartz pitched a complete game.

Luke Mamer hit a two-run home run for the Cougars (15-7, 8-6 CBC).

Tennis

Northeastern improved to 14-2 with a 4-1 victory over London. The second doubles team of J.C. Shull and Andrew Williams won 6-1, 6-0.
