Falcons qualify 13 wrestlers to state tournament

The Graham High School wrestling team cruised to a Division II district title Saturday at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe.

The Falcons crowned seven champions and advanced 13 to next week’s state tournament at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center. The top four district placers advanced.

Champions for Graham were Mitch Moore (113 pounds), Eli Stickley (120), Eli Seipel (126), Ryan Thomas (138), Brent Moore (145), Kyle Lawson (152) and Alex Marinelli (160).

Rocky Jordan (132), Garrett Jordan (170), Hayden Bronne (182) and Kavan Sarver (195) were runners-up, while Justin Stickley (106) and Josh Couchman (220) placed third.

Graham totaled 320 points to run away with the team title. Thornville Sheridan was a distant second with 96.

Urbana finished 11th, Shawnee was 15th, Greenon tied for 17th and Kenton Ridge placed 24th.

Urbana’s Jack Harris was the other area titleist. Harris was the champ at 182.

Shawnee’s Wayne Smiddy (145) and Kenton Ridge’s Tyler Sowards (152) finished second, while Urbana’s Jaylin Cameron (113) and Shawnee’s Luke Matthews (182) placed third.

The three-day state tournament begins Thursday and concludes Saturday.

• In the Division II district at Mansfield High School on Saturday, Northwestern finished 13th. Toledo Central Catholic was the team champ.

Northwestern’s Devin Rogers (second, 126) and Connor Rogers (fourth, 170) qualified to state.
