Former Dayton Flyers star excited to get chance with Atlanta Hawks

Jordan Sibert could make NBA debut Friday

Almost four years after he played his last game with the Dayton Flyers, Jordan Sibert will get a chance to showcase his game in the NBA for the first time.

Sibert signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday and will wear No. 8 for first game on the bench Friday against the Detroit Pistons in Atlanta. He'll become the 21st Dayton basketball alum to play in the NBA if he sees action.

Sibert joins a team with two former Atlantic 10 Conference stars: Saint Bonaventure’s Jaylen Adams, who has appeared in 10 games in his rookie season; and St. Joseph’s DeAndre’ Bembry, who’s averaging 8.0 points in his third season with the Hawks.

In an interview posted to Twitter by the Hawks on Thursday, Sibert talked about his call-up to the NBA from the Erie Bayhawks in the G League.

On what he brings to the team: "A lot of 3s and defense. Just going out there and having fun and trying to bring as much excitement as I can."

On meeting Vince Carter, the NBA veteran who's in his first season in Atlanta, and competing against him in a 3-point contest in practice: "After talking to him, he's a regular guy. He loves to help out when he can. Just being in that competition, joking around with him, it felt like i'd known him forever. That's just the type of man he is and the vibe he brings."

On where he was when he got the news that the Hawks wanted to sign him: "I was at my dad's house . I was in my living room. I got a call from my GM down in Erie. It was just a casual conversation, and then he told me, 'Atlanta has seen your work, and they're very excited to give you a 10-day.' I started sweating a little bit. I got nervous. But I was just excited. My dad was in the living room. I ran out there and told him. He was sick and laying on the couch. Once I told him, he jumped up and gave me a hug. I'm like, 'Don't get me sick.' But, no, it was exciting. I told my dad. I told my mom and my brother. I'm just excited to be here and have an opportunity to contribute to the team however they need me to. I think I've been fitting in pretty well so far."
