Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has a reputation as one of the league’s dirtiest players and he wasted no time living up to it on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In the first quarter, Burfict was down on the ground around a dogpile when he kicked Steelers fullback Roosevelt Nix. You can see the exchange on video here courtesy of Josh Rowntree of KDKA in Pittsburgh.

The incident took place directly in front of the side judge but for some reason Burfict wasn’t flagged on the play. However, given his reputation and his history against the Steelers in particular, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not the NFL takes a look at the play and doles out any sort of punishment.
Burfict was suspended three games for a series of illegal hits against the Steelers in the postseason two years ago. His shot to the head of Antonio Brown took him out of the following week’s game.
He was also suspended three games to start the 2017 season for another illegal hit. Counting salary forfeited to suspension and fines, dirty play has now cost Burfict nearly $2.2 million throughout the course of his career.
Still, the Bengals signed him to a three-year extension worthh $32.5 million in the offseason.
