Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery on Wednesday night and it doesn’t appear that football will be in his immediate future.

The surgery Shazier underwent will require several months of rehab before he can even begin to make a determination on whether or not he’ll be able to play again, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Shazier’s season is over and he’s fighting for things far more significant than football at this point. There’s still no official word on the extent of his injuries other than that he had surgery at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after being transported back to Western Pennsylvania from University of Cincinnati Medical Center on Wednesday.

At the moment, he’s still recovering from surgery and he’s in the hands of some of the best medical treatment you can get from the neurosurgeons at UPMC and Steelers team doctors.
