It appears as if the drama surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is just getting started.
Last week it was reported that Bryant had asked for a trade. He’d later refute those reports, but after seeing just 2 targets in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Bryant took his frustrations out on social media and Steelers rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster got caught in the crossfire.
When a fan tagged Bryant in an Instagram comment and claimed that Smith-Schuster was better, Bryant begged to differ. He later deleted that comment and added another claiming that he wanted Smith-Schuster to succeed but also needed more reps so he could get his.
On Monday, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Bryant was a no-show at mandatory team meetings and other players commented that Bryant had “called in sick.” Meanwhile, Smith Schuster took the high road.
The youngest player in the NFL said that he understands where Bryant is coming from and maintained that he and Bryant are currently in a good place as teammates, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Smith-Schuster caught his third touchdown pass of the season on Sunday and now has 17 catches for 231 yards to Bryant’s 18 catches for 234 yards. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported on Monday morning that Bryant is requesting a trade yet again.
The trade deadline is next Tuesday.
