The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots have had their fair share of intense battles over the years. These two teams have become known as two of the best franchises in the league for the past few decades, and with their matchup coming this weekend, the memories have been renewed.
For one specific member of the Steelers, though, the games against the Patriots always seem to mean just a bit more. The reason? Well, offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva finally broke the truth about his feelings on the Patriots.
He used to actually be a Patriots fan, as Joe Starkey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.
“Football is definitely a thing to get your mind off everything,” he said. “And yeah, I used to talk about the Patriots all the time because back in the day, my old self, my old rebel years — I don’t even know what I was thinking — I was a Patriots fan.”
Not only that, but the Steelers lineman also openly admitted that he was a “huge” Brady fan, per Starkey.
“Huge Brady fan, yes,” he said, apologetically.
Then he laughed and raised his voice: “But now I hate him!”
It’s always funny to hear stuff like this, but for what it’s worth, you can’t blame Villanueva for who he grew up being a fan of. At least it’s widely apparent that he’s locked in with the Steelers and has no interest in being anywhere else.
