New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is going to be suspended from the team, after walking out of activities today.
“Unreal. Giants coach Ben McAdoo say DRC came in today and then chose to leave,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “They intend to suspend him.”
Things just keep getting worse for the 0-5 Giants. They’re now down a corner as they’re facing the Denver Broncos and wideouts Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas. Both have had over 1,000 yards the last three years in a row, making them one of the most prolific duos in the NFL.
It looks like this all started against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, when Rodgers-Cromartie was taken out. He was less than thrilled then and still hasn’t gotten over it.
“Giants CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie had words with coach Ben McAdoo after being pulled in Sunday’s game, sources say. It continued today,” Rapoport added. “It got heated. DRC has been a good soldier, playing the slot, doing what was asked. As competitive as he is, getting pulled was too much. The issue between DRC and McAdoo and the coaches was never resolved Sunday. It continued today until the suspension and departure. Crazy.”
Rodgers-Cromartie used to play for the Broncos. He had one excellent year there in 2013, but the Broncos wouldn’t pay him what he was looking for, and he headed to New York. Denver moved forward and built one of the best defenses in the NFL, anchored by corners Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. It now looks like DRC won’t have to face his old team and see just how good that defense is first hand.
The Giants will also be without both starting wideouts, as Odell Beckham and another former Bronco, Brandon Marshall, are out for the season with injures.
