New Cleveland Browns GM John Dorsey takes shot at previous staff

Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey clearly isn’t a fan of the job Sashi Brown, the man he replaced, did in building the team’s roster.

In an interview with ESPN Cleveland Radio on Thursday, Dorsey took a massive shot at Brown and his staff, saying they failed to provide head coach Hue Jackson with players he could win games with.

“You know what? You gotta get a guy like that players,” Dorsey said.”And you know what, I’ll come straight out with it, the guys who were here before and that system, they didn’t get real players.

“I think as Bill Parcells would always say, you are your record. And you know what, there it is. That’s the truth-teller in this whole thing. And I’m going to do my darndest to get Hue players. And that’s all I can ask for, and that’s all I can do. I like the man.”

Within hours of being hired, Dorsey cut veteran wide receiver Kenny Britt, who Brown had signed to a four-year, $32.5 million contract last offseason. Britt has since landed with the New England Patriots, but for Dorsey, the decision was an easy one.

“I have no problem making that decision [to cut Britt]. From a cultural standpoint, I don’t think he fits in the prototypical character point of what I’m looking for, in terms of a leader,” Dorsey said. “He did not live up to his expectations as a player. He may have a higher opinion of himself than I have of him as a player. I thought that was easy.”

Dorsey’s comments are a clear indicator that he will likely clean house in the Browns’ scouting department this coming offseason. With potentially two picks in the top-five in 2018, he will have a chance to set Cleveland up nicely going forward.
