Ian Rapoport: Denver Broncos No. 1 offseason mission is to find a QB

The Denver Broncos have issues all over their roster, but none have been more glaring than their disastrous situation at the quarterback position.

According NFL Insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Broncos have made finding a starting quarterback for 2018 their No. 1 priority.

“Based on the Broncos sources that I’ve spoken with, they know that the No. 1 mission for the 2018 offseason is to go find a starting quarterback,” Rapoport explained. “They are not convinced, obviously, that their franchise quarterback is on their roster. So, what does that mean? From what I am told, all options are on the table, including potentially drafting a quarterback again very high in this upcoming draft, potentially spending big money on a free agent quarterback. Names like Kirk Cousins or Drew Brees, those are possibilities. Or they could potentially even trade for someone like Alex Smith of the [Kansas City] Chiefs, who they’ll likely look to deal in the offseason. This is exactly what the Broncos know they need to get accomplished this coming offseason. I would look for John Elway to be extremely active.”

The fact that the Broncos will be in the market for a new starting quarterback next offseason isn’t really groundbreaking news. Trevor Siemian is clearly not the answer; Paxton Lynch is looking more and more like a bust; and Brock Osweiler is better suited to be a backup.

What is notable from Rapoport’s report, though, is the idea that the Broncos’ preference may be to bring in a proven veteran.

Only time will tell how this situation plays out, but it’s a virtual guarantee that the Broncos’ 2018 starting quarterback isn’t currently on their roster.
