From the looks of Justin Simmons’ ankle, he’s not in the condition to play anytime soon. The Denver Broncos recognized that on Wednesday.
Denver placed the safety on injured reserve, the t eam announced Wednesday.
Simmons injured his ankle in embarrassing fashion. The Broncos safety sprained his ankle celebrating during the team’s Week 14 win over the New York Jets. His excitement was probably elevated because the Broncos finally ended an eight-game losing streak last week. However, he might want to temper his enthusiasm next year.
The second-year safety registered 63 tackles, 2 interceptions and 1 sack in 13 games this year.
Denver travels to Indianapolis to take on the Colts on Thursday night. The mathematically-eliminated Broncos will then finish out the season versus the Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs.
