Sean Lee and the Dallas Cowboys are going by a simple mantra during their season-defining stretch run — one game at a time.
“We continue to play,” Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee said after the team’s 30-10 win over the New York Giants, per the Cowboys’ official website. “We know we have a great opportunity ahead of us and we’ve got to take it one game at a time. I know that’s cliché, but that’s the only way you do it if you want to get on a winning streak.”
It’s notable for a player like Lee to say that. The Cowboys view the weak side linebacker as a team and he is the driving force on their defense. Dallas desperately missed Lee when he was out the past three games with a hamstring injury. He made his presence know on Sunday with a team-high 18 tackles.
Since the Philadelphia Eagles locked up the NFC East, the Cowboys (7-6) only chance to make the playoffs is going the wild card route.
All 22 stating on the Cowboys Facebook Live that the team needs to win out to have a chance at the postseason. If the regular season ending today, the Cowboys would be on the outside looking in. As it currently stands, the Carolina Panthers (8-5) and Atlanta Falcons (8-5) own the two win card spots. The Cowboys are currently the fourth team outside the NFC wild-card picture behind the Seattle Seahawks (8-5), Detroit Lions (7-6) and Green Bay Packers (7-6).
Three games remain in the regular season. Dallas will find out their postseason fate in the very near future.
The Cowboys don’t control their own destiny, it’s out of their hands. All the team can do is win the rest of the remaining games on the schedule.
