Cam Newton is accumulating rushing touchdowns at a ridiculous rate

Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton is arguably the best dual-threat quarterback the NFL has ever seen.

The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn University entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and has since developed into one of the premier players (regardless of position) in the game.

When it comes to scoring rushing touchdowns, very few players (running backs included) are in the same class as Newton.

According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, the 2015 NFL MVP is the only player in the league with at least 5 rushing touchdowns in each of the last seven seasons.

Smith added that New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is the only player in the league that has scored at least 5 rushing touchdowns in a season six times since 2011, and LeGarrette Blount, DeMarco Murray, Marshawn Lynch, and LeSean McCoy are the only players to score 5 or more touchdowns in at least five seasons since 2011.

Furthermore, since 2011, the only players in the league with more rushing touchdowns than Newton are Lynch and McCoy.

Newton already holds the NFL career record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 53. At only 28 years old, the three-time Pro Bowl selection will likely put that record out of reach by the time he hangs up his cleats and retires from the NFL.
