Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley knows the team is struggling, but he doesn’t think Colin Kaepernick is the answer – even though quarterback Trevor Siemian has thrown 3 interceptions and 1 touchdown in the last two games, both losses.
“Maybe a trade,” Stokely wrote when asked what the Broncos would do. “No chance on Kap.”
Stokley played with the Broncos from 2007 to 2009, so he knows what it’s like for the offense to struggle. He was solid in his time with the franchise, but it was back before John Elway had taken over as GM and started the turnaround. He was also in Denver for the 2012 season, though, so he’s seen some of the recent highs. That was the first year of quarterback Peyton Manning, whom Stokley had played with so prolifically in Indianapolis, and the Broncos made it all the way to the playoffs before shockingly getting upset by the Baltimore Ravens.
How is Stokley so sure about Kaepernick if he hasn’t been with the Broncos in years? He still lives in Denver and has his own radio show. He’s very connected with what the team is doing.
“It’s a different view from the outside,” Stokley said, per Heather Lloyd of Colts Roundup. “But I’m loving doing radio, staying involved, studying football, watching football, almost like when I played – because I’ve got to know what I’m talking about. We talk NFL and I live in Denver, so we talk Broncos mostly, but I’m having a lot of fun doing it.”
That may not mean he’s an authority on everything Broncos or has any inside sources, but his opinion carries a lot of weight.
