The Dayton Flyers received votes in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches women’s basketball polls Tuesday.

Dayton received one vote in the AP poll and multiple votes in the coaches poll. The Flyers are off to a 4-0 start with victories over Harvard (2-2), Tulane (2-2), Morgan State (2-2) and Virginia (1-3).

“We’re 4-0 right now with some really good challenges and tests under our belts against some really good teams,” Dayton coach Shauna Green said. “We got a couple of really good road wins and then obviously the Virginia win on Sunday was big against an ACC team that has a few elite players. We did a really good job defensively.”

Dayton goes on the road Wednesday to play Toledo at 7 p.m. Dayton lost 76-72 to Toledo at home last season.

“I like where we’re at,” Green said. “Tomorrow’s going to be a really tough test at Toledo. I just have so much repsect for what (coach Tricia Cullop) has done there. They’re just good every year we’ve played them. It’s going to be a battle.”

Jayla Scaife (14.8 points per game), Jenna Burdette (14.0) and JaVonna Layfield (11.8) lead the Flyers in scoring.

“I just like the toughness we’re developing,” Green said. “It’s not always pretty. I want us to hit more shots and not go 5 for 25 from 3 like we did on Sunday, but I love their toughness and their ability to make plays when things aren’t going our way. We’re doing it defensively. We’re doing it rebounding. We’re doing it with the hustle plays. That will take care of the offense.”
