Dayton women finish 2-0 in Maine

Flyers beat Harvard on Friday and Tulane on Saturday

The Dayton Flyers women’s basketball team took over Orono, Maine, this weekend, beating Harvard and Tulane to start the season 2-0. UD plays its home opener at 7 p.m. Friday against Morgan State.

Among the takeaways from the first two games were:

• Senior Javonna Layfield was named MVP of the Maine Tip-Off Tournament, averaging 15 points and 16 rebounds.

• Sophomore Jayla Scaife was also named to the all-tournament team. She led the Flyers with 29 points in the two games, scoring 13 in a 72-66 victory Friday against Harvard and 16 on Saturday in a 71-65 victory over Tulane.

• The Flyers showed poise in rallying from a 42-30 deficit in the third quarter against Tulane.

• Dayton controlled the rebounding edge in both games: 55-47 in the first game and 46-23 in the second.
