Dayton falls to UMass in double overtime

Luwane Pipkins hit a desperation bank shot 3-pointer as the shot clock expired with 55 seconds left to give Massachusetts an 84-81 lead over Dayton, and that shot helped the Minutemen prevail 86-82 in overtime Saturday at the Mullins Center.

Officials reviewed the shot for several minutes before ruling Pipkins got the shot off in time.

Josh Cunningham hit 1 of 2 free throws after the shot to cut the UMass lead to 84-82, but Unique McLean hit a jump shot with 12 seconds left to seal the victory for the Minutemen, who beat Dayton for the second time this season.

Josh Cunningham led the Flyers with 27 points. He played 47 minutes. Darrell Davis also played 47 minutes. Jordan Davis played 49 of the 50 minutes. Trey Landers scored 22 points, fouling out in overtime.

Jalen Clutcher had a shot to win the game at the end of regulation but just missed a short jumper.

Dayton lost its second straight game and falls to 10-12 and 4-6 in the Atlantic 10. UMass (11-13, 4-7) ended a five-game winning streak.
