Yahoo! Sports unanimously picks Baker Mayfield as best midseason quarterback

Mayfield has completed 100 of 134 passes for a 74.6 completion percentage. He’s thrown for 1,635 yards and 15 touchdowns and a whopping zero interceptions. That’s not a mistake or a typo, Baker Mayfield has not thrown an interception yet this season.

Next up, the Sooners have the Texas Longhorns, who are experts at taking the ball away. The Longhorns are tied for 13th in the nation with eight total interceptions. Five of those are DeShon Elliott’s interceptions, all five came within the last three games.

This won’t be a cakewalk week for Oklahoma. The Texas secondary is good, maybe the best in the conference. With star freshman CeeDee Lamb nursing a shoulder injury and Abdul Adams potentially sidelined as well, the Sooners are facing a tall task. Mayfield has the skill to get the job done, but the Sooners are going to have to give him some help on defense.

If Oklahoma can rattle young Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger, who is not officially the starter but is widely believed to be the starter, they should win. Mayfield is still going to have to show why he’s thought of as the best quarterback in the nation, this Texas team is not a joke.
