Traditions that mean the mostest

The offseason sometimes brings about boredom, but those moments also mean a greater appreciation for the events of the fall.

For instance, not seeing Spirit circle Jordan-Hare Stadium every home football Saturday (or the rolling of Toomer’s Corner that’s possible thereafter) makes fans miss the second half of the year.

The football news may be a little slow right now, but it’s all about to start again on March 1. Then it will be just a few more months until preseason camp is here.

Forecast is calling for a whiteout

Auburn basketball is helping fans spend their Valentine’s Day the right way.

The Tigers are hosting Kentucky on Wednesday night at Auburn Arena and calling for white, not red or pink. Coach Bruce Pearl has raved this season about the Jungle and the home-court advantage Auburn has on The Plains.

Pearl and his squad are looking for that edge again as the Wildcats come to town. So forget red roses and boxes of candy (OK, well maybe bring those), because Wednesday night is all about basketball.

Jared Harper poured in 24 points in Auburn’s win at Georgia on Saturday. Look for the sophomore to lead the way for the Tigers again as they take on the Cats.

Auburn baseball’s Calvin Coker was named to the Stopper of the Year watch list by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Tuesday afternoon.

As a junior, the right-hander led the team in 2017 with 31 relief appearances, which also tied for third in the SEC. The Texas native went 3-3 and had an ERA of 3.78.

College baseball’s opening day for 2018 is Friday.
