Louisiana’s favorite day
Well, LSU football fans, let’s be realistic, I don’t have your undivided attention on this Tuesday. Because it’s Mardi Gras. The one day everyone in Louisiana should get together and agree that LSU football comes second. It’s time to party.
If you waded your way into New Orleans for the festivities, please enjoy yourself responsibly. And have enough fun for me. I’m hanging this one out in Baton Rouge. Which, if you’re doing the same, you can check out this calendar to see what’s going on in the capital city for Fat Tuesday.

Anyway, we’re not going to take up too much of your time. Gotta leave as much time as possible for y’all to let the good times roll. Still, here’s the Mardi Gras 2018 edition of the Bayou Bengal Briefing:
In LSU football quarterback news
There’s no such thing as too much quarterback talk. In case you missed them, here are a couple of quarterback-related articles from Monday:
- 4-star QB DJ Uiagalelei recapped his first visit to LSU
- Myles Brennan or Lowell Narcisse? Who gets the nod to start in 2018?
SEC Country’s LSU recruiting guru Sam Spiegelman broke down which signees from the Class of 2018 are most likely to contribute early this season. You can find his full breakdown here. But here’s a quick glimpse at his list:
- LT Badara Traore
- WR Terrace Marshall Jr.
- CB/S Kelvin Joseph
- RB Chris Curry
- K Cole Tracy
The LSU coaching staff grew a little bit larger Monday when the Tigers acquired Garden City Community College wide receivers coach Leon Wright as a defensive analyst. This will be a return to Baton Rouge for Wright, who worked as a defensive graduate assistant under Dave Aranda and Corey Raymond in 2016 before heading to GCCC.
Wright was an All-ACC cornerback at Duke and has also coached at Princeton. He initially arrived at LSU in 2013, per his GCCC bio.
In LSU basketball news
The LSU basketball team travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Tuesday to face off against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tide defeated LSU 74-66 in the two teams’ previous meeting back on Jan. 13.
Today in made-up holidays
What? You’re looking for another holiday to celebrate? It’s Mardi Gras. You don’t need a made-up holiday on top of everything. Don’t be greedy. Wear some beads, eat a king cake and watch the parades. That’s all you really need.
