When Willie Taggart took the head coaching job at Florida State, the Seminoles owned the No. 64 recruiting class in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. By the time he finished, they had the No. 11 recruiting class in the nation and now Taggart is funneling that recruiting momentum into a bold promise.

While speaking to the Florida State Board of Trustees, athletic director Stan Wilcox claims that Taggart has promised to deliver the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation in the Class of 2019, according to a report from Warchant.com.

At the moment, Florida State’s 2019 recruiting class ranks No. 11 in the nation according to the 247Sports rankings. However, with just under a year to complete the process, the Seminoles have only taken commitments from four players at the moment.

5-star Akeem Dent, 4-stars Mike Morris and Quashon Fuller, and 3-star Tru Thompson have all been on the books as commitments since at least July of 2017. So they’ve held firm in their commitment to Florida State even though the transition from Jimbo Fisher to Willie Taggart.

Holding onto that core will be an essential task in making good on his promise, but the majority of the work towards moving up to No. 1 will come in the coming months. After a short vacation following their whirlwind finish to the Class of 2018, Florida State has been extremely aggressive with the Class of 2019.

It’s Taggart’s first full recruiting class and opportunity to show that he can convert excitement to results and that’s probably why he’s making such a bold promise to bring in the top haul in the country.
