2017 Celebration Bowl: Preview for Grambling-NC A&T

The 2017 Celebration Bowl is a matchup between the two best Historical Black Colleges and Universities and acts as the defacto national championship game for HBCUs.

This is the third year that the Celebration Bowl has been played. Grambling won last year’s game, beating North Carolina Central by the score of 10-9. In 2015 North Carolina A&T, who was led by current Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen, beat Alcorn State 41-34.

This year, both teams come in with strong records as Grambling State is 11-2, and having won its last 11 games, while North Carolina A&T is 12-1 and also having won 11 games in a row. Grambling’s only losses came against Arizona and Tulane while North Carolina A&T lost to Tulsa, and all of those schools have far superior resources than either of the participants in the 2017 Celebration Bowl.

A number of SEC fans may recognize Grambling’s quarterback, as it is former Ole Miss quarterback DeVante Kincade. He was a 4-star commit in the 2013 class but transferred after his redshirt sophomore season in order to be closer to home.

While North Carolina A&T may have the superior record, Grambling played a tougher schedule and has a great player in Kincade who will be the difference in the game. Kickoff for the matchup is set for 12 PM and the game can be seen on ABC.
