What Paul Chryst said after Wisconsin’s 38-13 win over Maryland

No. 5 Wisconsin is 7-0 following a 38-13 win over Maryland on Saturday afternoon. Here’s what Badgers coach Paul Chryst said when he met with reporters following Wisconsin’s victory.

Opening statement…

“It takes a lot of guys to step up and contribute. I’m proud of the way they played, and kept playing.”

On limiting turnovers…

“We gotta just work on minimizing those mistakes that make it a little bit harder. But I like how they focus on the next play. That’s how you have to play this game. I’m proud of that.”

On how freshman RB Jonathan Taylor responded after a fumble…

“I loved his response. You never want to turn the ball over. Obviously we have to do a better job coaching that. Alex didn’t want to throw a pick, J.T. didn’t want to put the ball on the ground. …You make sure they’re in a position to go forward and you put your trust in them.”

On the defense…

“They compete. That’s the biggest thing, they compete. And we got some guys who step up in those moments.”

On tight end Troy Fumagalli, who had seven grabs for 83 yards as Wisconsin’s wide receiver group was depleted by injuries…

“Fum, for the first time since the bye, was playing fast. And it carried over. …We need everyone. Especially with a smaller wide receiver group. Fum can be that guy.”
