What Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh said after 27-20 overtime win at Indiana

Michigan picked up a thrilling 27-20 overtime win at Indiana on Saturday. A goal-line stand secured the win as the Wolverines improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.

No. 17 Michigan struggled throwing the ball, but RB Karan Higdon had a career day with 25 carries, 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, including on the first play in overtime.

With the Michigan win, Indiana continues to be searching for its first win against Michigan since 1987. The Wolverines next play at undefeated Penn State at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 21 on ABC.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh after 27-20 win at Indiana

On Higdon:

“He was phenomenal. I don’t know how many yards he got after contact but those were tough yards. It looked like there’d be a tackle for loss, a small gain or no gain, and he got 4-5 (yards) out of it.

“He cracked a big one for us, and he didn’t get caught behind the line.

“Karan started the game and we leaned on him heavy. Chris and Ty both made some good plays. Nice to see Kareem Walker get a shot and produce. More carries for him in the future. And we’ve got a long way to go. We’re not very humble about this. We move onto a big road game next week. But this was a big game for our team. Mistakes were made, but it’s something we can really grow from.”

On the goal-line stand:

“We’re going to have to dig down deep to do it. The goal-line stand was great, an opp to keep them out of the end zone, win the ball game … It was a great four plays for us.”

On the Robbins punt:

“He was supposed to kick it to the opposite boundary and he did. It ended up in the middle of the field and they had a wall set up. From my view, it looked like he kicked the laces, too.

“A lot of young guys out there, and he’s one of them. And he’s doing a phenomenal job.”

Overall thoughts:

“The effort is really there, and it was last week. Mistakes made, and we’ve just got to grow from it and get them corrected. We knew what we were in for today. We were in for a football fight.”
