What is the early signing period?

Newly instituted by the NCAA this year, the early signing period gives athletes and schools a chance to make players’ commitments official before National Signing Day in February. This week, Miami will get to ink most of the already-verbally committed members of its Class of 2018 before the calendar even hits 2018. Teams won’t have to worry about prospects reneging on their pledges. Players won’t have to worry about schools pulling their scholarship offers. The No. 11 Hurricanes will have a good sense of what their incoming class will look like well ahead of the usual date.

When is the early signing period?

The early signing period stretches three days during the week. The period kicks of Wednesday, which is the day most players will sign their national letters of intent. Players will have until the end of the day Friday to sign or else they will have to wait until National Signing Day on Feb. 7.

Which Miami commitments are signing during the early signing period?

Miami plans to have at least 15 already-committed members of its next class become signees this week. Most are currently planning on signing Wednesday. The confirmed group includes 5-star running back Lorenzo Lingard, 4-star wide receiver Mark Pope, 4-star tight end Brevin Jordan, 4-star dual-threat quarterback Jarren Williams, 4-star safety Gurvan Hall, 4-star RB Cam’Ron Davis, 4-star WR Brian Hightower, 4-star guard Delone Scaife, 4-star cornerback Gilbert Frierson, 4-star TE Will Mallory, 4-star cornerback D.J. Ivey, 3-star WR Daquris Wiggins, 3-star weakside defensive end Gregory Rousseau, 3-star tackle John Campbell, 3-star weakside DE Patrick Joyner, 3-star fullback Realus George and 3-star kicker Bubba Baxa.

Which Miami recruits are announcing during the early signing period?

No Hurricanes targets have set an announcement date for the early signing period, although some up-in-the-air recruits could officially bring an end to their recruitments. Frierson and Hall were both once regarded as flip candidates, although it seems unlikely now. They can officially end things this week. Jared Goldwire is the Hurricanes’ best shot at landing a pledge during the early signing period. The 3-star junior college defensive tackle is committed to Louisville, although he took an official visit to Coral Gables, Fla., in November. He plans to enroll early and could flip from the Cardinals this week.

Which team commitments are enrolling early?

The Miami recruiting class will have at least 10 early enrollees. Lingard, Williams, Hall, Hightower, Scaife, Frierson, Ivey, Wiggins, Rousseau and Campbell all plan to be on campus in January. If the Hurricanes flip Goldwire this week, they’ll have at least 11 freshmen join the team next month. Pope also hopes to early enroll, although an administrative issue at his high school is holding up final confirmation.
