What Mark Dantonio said after Michigan State beat Indiana

Michigan State eked out a win over Indiana on Saturday after two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Here’s what Mark Dantonio said after the game:

His opening statement:

“We found a way. I would just say it’s about grit. I keep talking about that all the time with our football team, and that’s what it came down to.”

On struggles to score: “Every time we got across the 40, something seemed to happen. … We never really got the points.”

“I think we just played with poise. For freshman receivers to go and make plays like that at the end of the game, those are clutch plays.”

On offensive play calling: “Every play’s supposed to work. They’ve got guys too. IU should be given a lot of credit. They’re a very competitive football team. I think they’re well-coached.”

“I’m very proud of our football team because we didn’t quit and because we found a way to win. And that’s what good football teams do.”

“I think we’re learning how to win. After last season, I think we’re all learning. Last season we had some tough games and we didn’t win them. … Now we have another great challenge when we go to Evanston.”

On the defense: “I just think we’re executing very well. We’re believing in the system. We’re playing fast. And we have confidence right now.”

On the veterans: “They’re all in it for the right reasons, and they’re responding well in terms of leadership. … We’ve have great leadership from those guys, very unselfish, very positive.”
