West Virginia defensive tackle has been recognized as a Freshman All-American by 247Sports.
It’s the second Freshman All-America honor for McDougle, who was also recognized by ESPN earlier this week. He finished his first collegiate regular season with 2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss and 22 total tackles. He was also graded as one of the top run defenders in college football by Pro Football Focus.
McDougle has already out-performed his recruiting ranking so far. He was the No. 63-ranked defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 and No. 929 overall prospect, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Yet he was able to seize a starting role and immediately become a contributor for a Mountaineer defense that desperately needed him.
He’ll have another chance to improve on an already solid freshman season when West Virginia plays Utah in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Mountaineers play the Utes at 1:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 26 on ESPN.
