Florida commit Richard Gouraige returned to UF on Friday for the first time in more than two months.

The top-100 overall recruit and 4-star offensive tackle from Cambridge Christian School (Tampa, Fla.) took an unofficial visit to Florida this weekend.

During the trip, Gouraige met with new Gators coach Dan Mullen in his office and tried on Florida’s national championship rings from 2006 and 2008.

Gouraige hadn’t visited UF since the LSU game on Oct. 7, so getting him back on campus was big for Mullen and his staff. The Under Armour All-American attended Auburn’s win over Alabama two weeks ago and told SEC Country the game was “an eye-opener.”

Gouraige received in-home visits from multiple coaches this past week, with the Tigers sending offensive line coach Herb Hand and running backs coach Tim Horton on Tuesday and new Gators assistant John Hevesy seeing him Wednesday.

The coaching changes at UF have opened the door for Auburn to get back into the mix with Gouragie, who doesn’t plan to sign early and won’t be an early enrollee. He will officially visit both schools and potential some others, so Florida has a fight on its hands.

However, the fact that he came up on his dime — two days after his in-home with Hevesy — is a positive sign for the Gators. Their chances of keeping him committed will continue to be high if UF assistant Brad Davis remains on staff.

He served as his primary recruiter under former coach Jim McElwain and has a very close relationship with Gouraige and his mother, Kerlange. Proximity to home could also work into the Gators’ favor if a final decision has to be made Auburn and Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 283-pound Gouraige is ranked the nation’s No. 7 offensive tackle and No. 86 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He committed to Florida over Clemson on Oct. 20, and the Tigers are also a team to watch with him moving forward.
